Most Populated Countries


As time goes by, the world's population grows and grows. The population of the human-race now exceeds 7 billion, and is still on the rise! We are now becoming increasingly larger consumers and the population doesn't seem to be slowing-down any time soon.
Here is the list of the top 10 most populated countries in theworld.

1. China
With a massive 1.34 billion, China is the most populated country in the world, with around 19% of the whole world's population living there. China's population has boomed in the last 60 years, because believe it or not, China's population was only 563 million in 1950.

China introduced the one-child policy to help manage population, and is expected to reach a peak at around 2030, before slowly descending. 

2. India
India's population is 1.21 billion and isn't very far behind China. In fact, India's population is expected to surpass China's at around 2040, with the fertility rate of 2.8 per women. 

The Indian economy is the world's eleventh-largest by nominal GDP and third-largest by purchasing power parity.
It has the third-largest standing army in the world and ranks ninth in military expenditure among nations.

3. United States

There are 313.5 million people in the United States. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, and has the world's largest economy. The United States is also the largest oil consuming country on the entire planet.

4. Indonesia
At number 4 on the list, with over 238 million people and counting, is Indonesia. Indonesia consists of 33 different provinces and approximately 17,508 islands. 

The country is a member of ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and a member of the G-20 major economies.
Indonesia is one of the fastest growing major economies in the world right now.

5. Brazil
With over 192 million people, Brazil is the fifth country on the list. Brazil was a colony of Portugal from the landing of Pedro Álvares Cabral in 1500 until 1815, when it was 'promoted' to the rank of kingdom and the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves was formed.

It has the world's sixth largest economy and is also one of the 17 Megadiverse countries. It is the only Portuguese-speaking country in the Americas (north and south).

6. Pakistan
Pakistan is a sovereign country in South Asia and has a human population of over 170 million. It is an ethnically and linguistically diverse country, with a similar variation in its geography and wildlife.

The birth rate in Pakistan is quite high, at 3.7 live births per woman, so the population is expanding rapidly. Pakistan lies along the collision point between the Indian and Asian tectonic plates, and so, much of the country consists of rugged mountains.

7. Nigeria
Nigeria consists of its federal capital and 36 states. It shares land borders with; Chad and Cameroon in the east, the Republic of Benin in the west, and Niger in the north. 
Nigeria and its bordering countries can be found in West Africa.

It has a current population of over 162 million people and is themost populated country in the whole of Africa. The countries oil reserves have brought in great revenue.

8. Bangladesh
Bangladesh is a parliamentary democracy, with an elected parliament called the Jatiyo Sangshad. The country is subject to annual monsoon floods and cyclones.
It is placed eighth on this list for its population, which comes to a total of 148 million. It is bordered by India and Burma and by the Bay of Bengal to the south.

9. Russia
Russia is the largest country on the planet, yet despite its enormous size (1/8 of the total landmass of the earth), Russia is ninth on this list, as its population comes in at 143 million inhabitants.  

The country extends across the whole of northern Asia and 40% of Europe, spanning across nine time zones and incorporating a wide range of environments and landforms.  
Russia became the largest and leading constituent of the Soviet Union, and a recognised superpower, which played a key role in the Allied victory in World War II.

10. Japan
Japan lies as an island in East Asia, in the Pacific Ocean, to the east of the Sea of Japan, China, North Korea, South Korea and Russia.

Japan is often referred to as 'the land of the rising sun' because of the characters that make up its name; "sun-origin".  
Japan is made-up of a cluster of islands, 6,852 to be precise, and boasts a population of over 127 million people.
