दुनिया के चंद सबसे महंगे धर्मगुरु निवासों में दलाई लामा का घर पोटला पैलेस भी है। करीब 160 करोड़ रुपये के इस पैलेस में धर्मगुरु दलाई लामा हर साल सर्दियों के मौसम में रहते थे। वहीं, गर्मी के मौसम में वो नोरबुलिंग्का पैलेस में शिफ्ट हो जाते थे। वर्तमान में इस पैलेस की कीमत कई अरब रुपये आंकी जा रही है। ल्हासा में मौजूद इन दोनों ही घरों के बीच करीब 3 किलोमीटर की दूरी है।  

 

आपको यह जान कर आश्चर्य होगा कि तिब्बत की राजधानी ल्हासा में दलाई लामा अपना शानदार महल छोड़कर भारत में शरण ली थी। ल्हासा में पोटला पैलेस को 1994 में यूनेस्को ने वर्ल्ड हैरिटेज घोषित किया था। 14वें दलाई लामा ने भारत के पूर्वी छोर धर्मशाला को ही अपना आसरा बनाया। दुनियाभर से लाखों श्रद्धालु उनके दर्शन करने भारत चले आते हैं।

 

करीब 400 मीटर पूर्व-पश्चिम और 350 मीटर उत्तर-दक्षिण में फैले इस पैलेस की हर दीवार करीब 3 मीटर मोटी है, वहीं गहराई में इसकी मोटाई 5 मीटर है। इसके चलते यह पैलेस पूरी तरह से भूकंप-रोधी है। पैलेस की 13 मंजिली बिल्डिंग में 1000 से ज्यादा कमरे, 10000 श्राइन और करीब 2 लाख स्टैच्यू हैं। पोटला पैलेस तीन तरफ से पहाड़ियों से घिरा हुआ है। इसके चलते यह सबसे सुरक्षित धर्मगुरु निवास स्थल भी माना जाता है। सोने के रंग वाला यह महल दूर से देखने पर किसी भी सोने के महल से कम नहीं लगता है। पहनावे के मामले में दलाईलामा अपने महल में सिर्फ बिना सिले कपड़े ही पहने हुए दिखाई देते हैं।

शायद आप नहीं जानते होंगे कि नेल पॉलिश, लिपस्टिक, मस्कारा आदि सौन्दर्य प्रसाधन में चमक किस चीज की होती है। 

यह चमकदार पदार्थ मछली के शल्क होते हैं जो रोशनी में अलग अलग रंगों में चमकते हैं। 

अब आप समझ गए होंगे कि अगर आप इन्हें प्रयोग करते हैं तो अपने शरीर पर आप मरे हुए या मारे गए जानवरों के अंगों का लेप कर रहे हैं।

जिलेटिन या गम अरैबिक

जिलेटिन या गम अरैबिक (gum arabic) E 441 (Gelatine - Emulsifier/Gelling Agent) जानवरों की हड्डियाँ और मांस को उबाल कर बनती है। इसका प्रयोग टूथपेस्ट, जेली, दवा के कैप्सूल, जैम, आइसक्रीम, क्रीम, डिब्बा बंद दूध में होता है।

इसका प्रयोग वजन घटाने वाले भोजन में भी होता है जिससे कि ज्यादा खाने का अनुभव तो हो परन्तु कैलोरी की मात्रा कम निकले।

बेकरी वाले इसका इस्तेमाल "एक्लेयर" बनाने में करते हैं। मिठाई उद्योग में जिलेटिन एक मुख्य पदार्थ है। जिलेटिन का प्रयोग सेब का रस या सिरका जैसी चीजों को साफ़ करने के लिए भी किया जाता है। डिब्बा बंद मांस को संरक्षित करने में भी जिलेटिन का सहारा लिया जाता है। दवाइयों के कैप्सूल और गोलियों के ऊपर इसका लेप होता है। गाय और सूअर की चर्बी से बना जिलेटिन मरीजों को "इंजेक्शन" के तौर पर दिया जाता है, जैसे- खसरा, डीपथीरिया, टिटनस, इन्फ्लुएंजा और रैबीज इत्यादि की वैक्सीन में। इसे खून में प्लाज्मा के प्रतिरूप में भी प्रयोग किया जाता है। नहाने के कैप्सूल, जिनमें तेल होता है और जो पानी में घुल जाते हैं, उनमें भी जिलेटिन का प्रयोग होता है।

पानी में उगने वाली घास, जिसे अगर-अगर कहते हैं, वह जिलेटिन का एक विकल्प है, गुआर गम भी जिलेटिन का विकल्प है लेकिन शायद ही इन विकल्पों का प्रयोग किया जाता हो !

अब सरकार ने इस पदार्थ को अपने आप में एक भोज्य पदार्थ घोषित कर दिया है जिससे अब किसी भी खाद्य में इसको मिलाने से उस खाद्य पदार्थ पर जिलेटिन का उल्लेख करना जरूरी नहीं रहा है।

यानि आप अब पता नहीं लगा सकते कि किसी खाद्य पदार्थ में जिलेटिन है या नहीं !

भारत में जो ईनो की 100 ग्राम की शीशी लगभग 60 रुपए की मिलती है उसमें केवल 5 रुपए मूल्य की सामग्री है। 

100 ग्राम ईनो में लगभग 45 ग्राम साइट्रिक एसिड होता है इसका मूल्य है साढ़े तीन रुपए 

और 55 ग्राम मीठा सोडा होता है जिसका मूल्य है डेढ़ रूपए।

कैक्टस के पौधों पर पाए जाने वाले एक कीट को कोचिनियल बीट्लस (Cochineal beetle) के नाम से जाना जाता है। 

 मादा बीट्लस रेड बैरीज खातीं हैं और इन्हें जब कुचला जाता है, तो इनके पेट से गहरे लाल रंग की डाई कारमाइन E120 (carmine) निकलती है। इन्हें सदियों से इस्तेमाल किया जा रहा है क्योंकि ये इंसानों के लिए सुरक्षित माने जाते हैं। 

इसका उपयोग शर्बत, कैंडी, आइसक्रीम, लिपिस्टिक, आई शैडो में धड़ल्ले से किया जाता है। डॉक्टरों का कहना है कि इस रंग के प्रयोग से कई प्रकार की एलर्जी हो सकती है। 

भारत में इस रंग के प्रयोग पर कुछ पाबन्दियाँ हैं।
