World’s First Diamond ring

Switzerland’s Shawish Jewelry has created the world’s first diamond ring.
Not impressed? Well, consider that the entire ring is carved from a diamond, whereas most other diamond rings are composed of a precious-metal band with a diamond centerpiece. The 150-carat ring runs laps around some other famous diamond competitors, including Beyoncé’s 18-carat engagement ring from Jay-Z and the even better known 30-carat ring given to the late Elizabeth Taylor by Richard Burton.
The ring was created by Shawish’s president and CEO Mohamed Shawesh using lasers (yes, lasers!) along with traditional diamond cutting and polishing techniques. It took a full year to carve the ring, which has been copyrighted and is expected to sell for $70 million.

Chrysopelea – Flying Snakes

Chrysopelea is known under its assigned common name “flying snake”. It glides by using its ridge scales along its belly, pushing against rough bark surface of tree trunks, allowing it to move vertically up a tree. Upon reaching the end of a tree’s branch, the snake continues moving until its tail dangles from the branch’s end. It then makes a J-shape bend, leans forward to select the level of inclination it wishes to travel to control its flight path, as well as selecting a desired landing area.

The Evolution of Makeup

Looks like women as far back as 4000BC had the same type of outlook on beauty and expression when it came to beauty. Ancient Egyptian women kohl to blacken their upper and lower lids, and in the 1600’s, women unknowingly powered their faces arsenic powder to matte those pesky oily areas on their face.  While today’s info graphic stops at 2002, it is interesting to see how makeup was first utilized. Women went through amazing lengths to try and accentuate their conceptions of beauty.
After today’s infographic, I hope all you men and women appreciate the lengths women go for beauty and self expression. As you can see, it is an art form that has taken generations to take form.  [via]
