The Sun Temple of Modhera, Gujarat

The Sun Temple in Modhera, Gujarat was built in the early 11th century by King Bhimdev, in dedication to the Hindu Sun-God, Surya. The temple’s magnificent exterior is intricately carved, and designed in such a way that the sun’s rays illuminate the temple’s sanctum at dawn during the equinoxes. Besides the sanctum, the temple has a pradakshina patha and a sabha mandap, as well as a Surya Kund, a massive tank with stunning miniature shrines that adorn its steps. 30 Famous Mythical Humanoid Creatures

Some mythical creatures, have their origin in tradition and some might be 
living in distant past. However each culture is associated with a multitude of such creatures, many of them being humanoids. Literally, there are thousands of legendary humanoid creatures that might have in real or believed to be lurked upon our planet but we shall tell here the tales of the most popular 
ones integrated in various cultures.

1. Gog and Magog
 

Gog Magog appear in the Qur’an, Book of Genesis, the Book of Ezekiel and theBook of Revelation. They are variously presented as supernatural beings, demons or national groups that lurked upon the land. Gog and Magog occur widely in mythology and folklore and their existence is accepted by many religions including Islam, Christianity and Judaism. 

The widely accepted belief both in Christianity and Islam holds that “He of the Two Horns” (a great and righteous ruler) or Two Ages (one who impacts on two ages) travelled the world in three directions, until he found a tribe threatened by Gog and Magog, who were of an “evil and destructive nature” and “caused great corruption on earth.” The people offered tribute in exchange for protection, he agreed to help them, but refused the tribute; he constructed a great wall that the hostile nations were unable to penetrate. They will be trapped there until doomsday, and their escape will be a sign of the end: “The War of Gog and Magog” would precede the return of Jesus. .

Tiger Temple

Tiger Temple, or Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua, is a Theravada Buddhist temple in western Thailand that was founded in 1994 as a forest temple and sanctuary for wild animals, among them several tigers, mostly Indo-chinese Tigers.

In 1999, the temple received the first tiger cub, one that had been found by villagers; it died soon after. Later, several tiger cubs were given to the temple, typically when the mothers had been killed by poachers, people whose "pet" tigers were getting too big, or those who had to when the laws about the keeping protected species became more strict.^[1] As of 2007, over 21 cubs had been born at the temple, and the total number of tigers was about 12 adult tigers and 4 cubs. As of late March 2011, the total number of tigers living at the temple has risen to almost 90^.

The Tiger Temple practices a different conservation philosophy than in the west. As a forest monastery, no alcohol is allowed on site. Appropriate clothing must be worn by women, covering their shoulders and knees so as not to offend the celibate monks. No bright coloured [red] clothing, no sleeveless or strapless tops or shorts/mini skirts are allowed either. No shawls or sarongs for the upper or lower body should be worn.

Steve Mills

Born in in 1959 in Boston, MA, photorealist oil painter Steve Mills sold his first drawing at the age of 11 

and has been selling ever since. Every child drew when young, though Mills requested a pencil over crayons 

to get better detail. 

This fascination with detail became his calling card. Influenced by the works of Andrew Wyeth, 

his early paintings consisted mostly of landscapes. After seeing the work of Richard Estes 

at a show in Boston, MA, Photorealism became his passion. 

Today his interests are somewhat varied though his main focus is on the “extraordinarily-ordinary”.

Roberto Bernardi was born in Todi on the 18th of May 1974. 

He started to paint at a very young age and his first works in oils 

date back to the first half of the eighties. 

After an initial foray with landscapes and portraits, Bernardi turned towards 

a more intense and spectacular type of painting; photorealism. 

In this style Bernardi is most comfortable expressing his creativity while satisfying 

his perfectionist technical goals. 

He applies layers of oil paint and varnish in the traditional manner to a totally modern image, 

creating a wholly contemporary, unique kind of image.

बताते चलें कि मनोहरन के नाम गिनिज़ बुक ऑफ वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड दर्ज है। दिसंबर, 2006 में 25 साल की उम्र में इन्होंने 30 सेकंड के अंदर करीब 200 केंचुओं और छिपकली को खा लिया था। ऐसा करने वाले यह पूरी दुनिया में इकलौते शख्स थे।
 
13 साल की उम्र से ही सांपों और कीड़ों-मकोड़ों के साथ खेल दिखाने वाले मनोहरन अपनी मुंह में साप को डाल कर नाक से निकाल लेते हैं। सांपों के साथ इस तरह के हैरतअंगेज खेल दिखाने में इनको महारत हासिल है। 
 
तस्करी का आरोप
 
गिनिज़ बुक ऑफ वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड में अपना नाम दर्ज करा चुके मनोहरन अपनी करतूतों की वजह से पुलिस के भी हत्थे चढ़ चुके हैं। दिल्ली पुलिस ने दुर्लभ प्रजाति के सांप और मगरमच्छ के बच्चों की तस्करी के आरोप में उन्हें गिरफ्तार किया था।

हजारों साल पुराना रहस्य, पूजा ख़त्म होते ही बरसती है 'आग'

मैंगलोर। कर्नाटक के मैंगलोर में देवी को खुश करने के लिए जलती मशालों से जंग लड़ने की एक अजीबोगरीब परंपरा निभाई जाती है। मैंगलोर के कटील में मौजूद प्रसिद्ध दुर्गा परमेश्वरी मंदिर में आस्था के नाम पर आग से खेलने का दिल दहला देने वाला खेल खेला जाता है। यहां आठ दिनों तक यह सालाना उत्सव चलता है।
 
इलाके के लोगों के मुताबिक ये परंपरा सदियों से चली आ रही है। "अग्नि केलि" नाम का ये खेल दो गांव के लोगों के बीच खेला जाता है। सबसे पहले देवी की शोभा यात्रा निकाली जाती है इसके बाद पास ही में बने तालाब में डुबकी लगाने के बाद दो गांव आतुर और कलत्तुर के लोग दो गुटों में बंट जाते हैं और अपने अपने हाथों में नारियल की छाल से बनी मशाल लेकर एक दूसरे के विरोध में खड़े हो जाते हैं।
 
मशालों को जलाया जाता है और फिर शुरू हो जाता है जलती मशालों को एक-दूसरे पर फेंकने का खेल। ये खतरनाक खेल करीब 15 मिनट तक खेला जाता है। इस दौरान एक शख्स को सिर्फ पांच बार जलती मशाल फेंकने की इजाजत होती है। इसके बाद वो इस मशाल को बुझाकर वहां से हट जाता है 
 
मंदिर के पुजारी का कहना है क‍ि यह परंपरा सदियों पुरानी है, और सिर्फ कोदेथुर और अथूर गाव के लोग इसमें शामिल होते है। इस भयानक अग्नि खेल के पीछे दुर्गा जी को प्रसन्‍न करने का तर्क दिया जाता है्। इसमें वहीं आदमी भाग लेते है जो आर्थिक या शारीरिक किसी परेशानी में होते है। यह अग्नि उत्‍सव आठ दिनों तक चलता है। इस दौरान यहां पर मांस और मदिरा का सेवन एकदम बंद हो जाता है।

The panda, also known as the giant panda to distinguish it from the unrelated red panda, is a bear native to central-western and south western China. It is easily recognized by its large, distinctive black patches around the eyes, over the ears, and across its round body. Though it belongs to the order Carnivora, the panda’s diet is 99% bamboo. Pandas in the wild will occasionally eat other grasses, wild tubers, or even meat in the form of birds, rodents or carrion. In captivity they may receive honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, or bananas along with specially prepared food.
